Activities
Students learn in many different ways. This is why it is important to incorporate many different teaching techniques into the classroom. The goal of these lesson plans are to teach students about health careers while still making it fun and interactive. The majority of these activities are hands-on and encourages group participation. For more classroom activities visit the H.O.T. Jobs web site.
Healthcare and Bones
Our bodies are stabilized by hundreds of bones configured together that give us our shape. The skeleton makes an excellent lesson plan because many students don’t realize how many healthcare professionals deal with bones. It is also an eye opening experience for students to try and learn the names of all their bones. This activity asks students to draw their skeleton and name as many of the bones as possible.
Careers in Healthcare
Capital AHEC has partnered with organizations around the state to offer the H.O.T. Jobs booklet which is a health career resource. This book is used during this lesson plan to show students the number of opportunities that are available in healthcare. The activity in this lesson plan assigns students a certain career and students have to figure out what it is that those professionals do.
Teen Health Issues
There are a number of teen health issues in today’s society that are affecting students. This lesson plan addresses a few of those issues and uses billboards and public service announcements to help prevent those issues. This activity asks students to create their own billboard and PSA which they present in front of the class.
Education vs. Expenses
College is an important part of a student’s future and we want to encourage as many people as possible to continue their education. In this lesson plans students compare salaries for different education levels. The activity in this lesson asks students to create a budget based on their assigned income level.
