Community Opportunities
Capital AHEC has created a cradle to the grave concept to encompass the many demographics we strive to reach. Our different program areas have been developed in order to achieve these goals. No matter what stage your community is in we are here to help. From molding students through Health Careers Promotion to teaching geriatric sensitivity in Health Literacy our staff address the many issues addressing healthcare one step at a time.
3 Phase Community Plan
The need for health professionals in central Texas communities has never been greater. Capital AHEC has created a 3 Phase Community Plan in order to implement our program areas into local communities as well as assist community leaders with meeting their individual needs for healthcare professionals.
Health Career Promotions
This program area is designed to increase the number of students entering careers in healthcare. Capital AHEC focuses our efforts on middle and high school students and encourages them to consider the many different options that are available in the field of medicine. Texas Department of Rural Affairs (TDRA)
The Office of Rural Community Affairs is a state agency, created in 2001 by the 77th Legislature to ensure a continuing focus on rural issues, monitor governmental actions affecting rural Texas, research problems and recommend solutions, and to coordinate rural programs among state agencies. ORCA has available grants and funding opportunities for communities in need.
School Health Advisory Councils (SHAC)
Capital AHEC works with schools in our service area to implement Texas Senate Bill 19 and 1357 to develop SHACs. We offer training to SHAC coordinators to develop their council from the ground up.
